Broad Street improvements now in place

Some final touches still need to be added, but the core of the scheme is in place, including new planters, outdoor seating and other amenities. The aim is to make Broad Street a more pleasant public space and encourage people to spend more time there, as part of efforts to revitalise the city centre.

The statutory consultation period is now live, and staff and students are invited to provide comments through the council's online survey until 24 April 2023.

During this period, the council will now be monitoring how people use the space, including traffic volumes and speeds, changes to cycling, walking and other sustainable transport methods, how long people are spending in the area, and any effects on air quality, public transport usage and trade for nearby businesses.

The data they gather will help inform recommendation on the future of Broad Street after the current temporary programme of improvements has ended.

Proposals for a new motorcycle parking bay on St Giles' and four more disabled parking spaces and a drop-off-only bus stop on Parks Road have also been approved.
